Noticed one slight stain on the bedsheets. The beds were so-so, probably several years old. This did not last long as the windows do not have screens and bees were flying just outside the window. We decided to forego the AC and opened the windows to air the room. My guess is that the AC filter has not been changed in a long time and at one time smoking was allowed. However, the room (and elevator) smelled very stale once we entered, and did not improve significantly with the AC on (my older son has severe allergies and AC is typically highly desireable). We found the hotel staff to be very friendly (as we found many of the locals to be, too).
My wife, two young adult sons and I struggled finding good, reasonably priced lodging in Cripple Creek as a base for local sightseeing (we are not gamblers). Since the room itself is probably more important to most people than the breakfast, I am rating this hotel Poor. In short, I rate the room 'poor', but the breakfast, which is served offsite at the casino down the hill, is above average for this type of lodging.
